Living in Cave Creek, we all know that once June hits, the “dry heat” is no joke. While we love our desert sunsets and poolside weekends, the Arizona summer can be brutal on your complexion. Between the intense UV rays and the moisture-stripping AC, your skin can quickly go from “glowing” to “parched.”
At Just Breathe By Jodi, we want you to keep that summer radiance without the damage. Here is our professional guide to surviving the heat while keeping your skin hydrated and protected.
1. Hydration is an “Inside-Out” Job
In the desert, you lose moisture through your skin (trans-epidermal water loss) faster than you realize.
- Internal: Drink more water than you think you need. If you’re thirsty, your skin is already dehydrated.
- External: Switch to a Hyaluronic Acid serum. This powerhouse molecule holds 1,000 times its weight in water, pulling moisture into your skin cells even when the air is bone-dry.
2. Don’t Skip the Professional Exfoliation
It sounds counterintuitive to exfoliate in the summer, but sweat, heavy sunscreen, and dust from the haboobs can clog your pores quickly.
- Dermaplaning is a summer favorite at our studio. By removing the “peach fuzz” and dead skin, your cooling mists and hydrating serums can actually penetrate the skin instead of sitting on top of a layer of dust and oil.
3. The “SPF 30” Rule (And Re-application!)
In Arizona, sunscreen isn’t optional—it’s a health requirement.
- Look for Physical/Mineral Sunscreens (Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide). These sit on top of the skin and reflect heat, whereas chemical sunscreens can sometimes trap heat in the skin, leading to redness or heat rashes.
- Pro-Tip: Don’t forget your ears, the back of your neck, and your hands while driving down Carefree Highway!
4. Calm the “Heat Stress”
If your skin feels hot or looks red after a day outdoors, it’s experiencing inflammation. At Just Breathe By Jodi, we love using Terahertz Frequency and cooling globes to calm the skin’s internal temperature. At home, keep your sheet masks or jade rollers in the fridge for an instant “cool-down” ritual.
5. Transition Your Products
Heavy winter creams can feel suffocating in 110-degree weather. Swap your thick oils for lightweight, water-based “gel-creams.” These provide the barrier you need to keep moisture in without feeling greasy during a monsoon-season humidity spike.
Beat the Heat with Jodi
Your skin doesn’t have to suffer just because the thermometer is rising. Whether you need a deep-cleaning facial to clear out summer sweat or a hydrating treatment to restore your bounce, we are here to help you maintain that Cave Creek Summer Glow.
